About me

My name is Luciana Fajardo, and I am a technical and sworn translator, proofreader, and teacher. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Language and Literature - Portuguese/English from UFRJ and a graduate degree in Translation for the Job Market from PUC-Rio. I also hold a C2-level English proficiency certificate from the University of Cambridge.
I have been working as a translator since 2020, during which time I had the opportunity to complete an internship in the field under the guidance of a sworn translator, an experience that shaped my professional practice. Since then, I have been working with a variety of projects and tools: I am familiar with CAT tools, machine translation and post-editing (MTPE), and have experience in managing translation and subtitling projects, as well as proofreading texts of various types and genres, ranging from translations and academic papers to cover letters, educational materials, advertising copy, and corporate and legal documents.
In the field of translation, I have worked with materials such as academic articles in the fields of public health, economics, the humanities, and education, as well as texts on advertising and marketing, fashion, lifestyle, music, and culture. I also translate corporate and legal documents, including birth and marriage certificates, ID cards, driver’s licenses, and official Brazilian and foreign documents.
I believe that translation works like a patchwork quilt. This craft is built on meticulous research, drawing on various sources and strategies, and is never limited to just one resource or technique. Through many different paths, many tabs open at the same time, and a great deal of patience to repeat the process as many times as necessary until we find the best equivalent, we arrive at the final result: the translated text, which reveals an entire world of sources and research into just a few pages. The non-linear journey and the “stitches” sewn into the text until we reach the final version, the pinnacle of refinement, is what captivates me about this profession.
